Fabrication of ZnO nanorods/CuO and ZnO nanorods/Cu?O heterojunctions by Chemical bath Deposition

Abstract(in English) Copper (II) oxide (CuO) and copper (I) oxide (Cu2O) films were grown on Au/Ti/Si(100) substrates by conventional chemical bath deposition (CBD) and iron (Fe)-assisted CBD methods using the aqueous solution of Cu(NO?)??3H2O with pH 10, respectively. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods were successfully grown on both the CuO and Cu?O films by the CBD using the mixed aqueous solution of Zn(NO?)??6H?O and C?H??N?. Both the PL spectra from the ZnO NRs/CuO heterostructures and those from the ZnO NRs/Cu?O heterostructures were composed of a near-band-edge emission and a broad orange emission associated with interstitial oxygen atoms. However, current-voltage characteristics of the ZnO NRs/Cu?O heterostructures did not show rectification behavior. This result indicates that the introduction of a buffer layer between the ZnO NRs layer and the Cu?O (or CuO) layer is required for preventing leak current.
