| 抄録(和) | 複数の異なる画像特徴の統合は，ヒトの物体認識処理における重要な機能である．特に物体表面テクスチャと物体形状のコーディングは物体認識処理において重要であるとされるが，それらの関係については不明な点が多く残されている．そこで本研究では，2匹のサルのV4細胞計46個からの記録を対象にして、自然画像とそのSilhouette画像(図領域と背景領域を２色に塗り分けた画像)への反応の比較を行った．その結果，Natural刺激とSilhouette刺激で応答の差に相関(0.56)が見られた．この結果は，V4細胞が面と形状を同時にコーディングすることを示唆している． |
| 抄録(英) | Integration of multiple properties of an object is a fundamental function of the visual cortex in object recognition. Surface pattern and contour shape are thought to be crucial characteristics that contribute jointly to the recognition. We investigated the integration of surface and shape as well as their corresponding cortical representation in the intermediate-level visual area, V4, of monkeys. To examine whether V4 neurons are responsive to both surface and shape, we examined whether single V4 neurons were responsive to both natural image patches and their silhouette, wherein the former included both contour shape and surface properties, such as texture, color, and specularity, but the latter included only contour shape. Specifically, we analyzed the correlation between the spike counts responding to 105 natural image patches and their silhouette patches. The correlation coefficient across 46 neurons was 0.56 (p<0.001), suggesting the partial joint-coding of surface and shape in single V4 neurons. |
