Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Most vertebrates has a reflexive eye movement called the optokinetic response (OKR) in response to large visual field motion. OKR stabilizes our vision by following the visual motion to minimize retinal slip. After being given a visual stimulus that periodically switches the direction for a long time, the goldfish acquires a predictable OKR (pOKR) that predicts the switching timing. It has been shown that pOKR requires a neural mechanism formed in the brain stem called the cerebellum and velocity accumulation mechanism (VSM) which is closely related to motion sickness, disembarkation disease, and spatial disorientation. We constructed an OKR model by the artificial neural circuit based on the connectome of the cerebellum and brain stem, which are known anatomically and physiologically. It has been known that the duration of optokinetic nystagmus (OKAN), which reflects the volume of VSM, is significantly shortened by the vestibular nerve incision, but its neural mechanism is unknown. In this study, we perform a vestibular nerve resection simulation using the OKR model by the artificial neural circuit and show the mechanism of shortening the OKAN duration. |
