A Study on Gaussian Belief Propagation with Whitening Filter for Faster-than-Nyquist Transmissions

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a novel concatenated structure of whitening filter and iterative detector based on Gaussian belief propagation (GaBP) for suppressing inter-symbol interference (ISI) in faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) transmissions. The FTN transmissions can achieve higher data rate than the typical Nyquist transmission scheme by superimposing symbols at intervals less than the Nyquist interval in the time domain. However, the time compression also results in severe ISI. Moreover, the FTN transmissions cause severe correlation between the noise components, and this severely degrades the convergence property of GaBP iterative detection, which is designed on the assumption of uncorrelated observation signals. To improve the detection capability of GaBP detection, in this paper, we introduce whiting filters based on eigenvalue decomposition and Cholesky decomposition before GaBP iterative detection process. Finally, we evaluate the bit error rate (BER) performances by computer simulations, and clarify the validity of the FTN detector based on our proposed structure.
