[Poster Presentation] Subjective optimization of stereo width shrink algorithm in headphones reproduction

Abstract(in English) Recently, most of casual listeners listen to music via headphones and earphones. However, almost all of music sources assume the reproduction using loudspeakers and cannot naturally reproduce spatial impression through earphones and headphones. In this study, stereo music sources are converted by either binaural rendering or stereo width control by an amplitude difference, stereo width control by a phase difference. The first method convolves head-related impulse responses into the original stereo sources, and the second method shrinks the perceptual spatial width by adding the monaural signal into original stereo sources, the final method shrinks the perceptual spatial width by giving the signals of left and right a phase difference. To investigate perceptual differences of three methods, the most suitable stereo widths of the stereo width shrink algorithms are decided by comparing with binaural rendering.
