Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) People can pay selective attention to music or speech from various sounds. It has been reported that when multiplebeat sounds or speeches are presented or one piece of music is presented, attention have effect on electroencephalogram (EEG). However, the effect of selective attention on EEG is unclear when people are presented multiple music. In this study, we hypothesizedthat selective attention under multiple music presentations would enhance entrainment to the attentional music, andthe attentional direction can be estimated from the difference in entrainment. To show our hypothesis, we run experiments bypresenting two melodies with different tempo from different spatial directions having participants attending to one of them. As a result, the cross-correlation function between the EEG and envelope of the melody was different between different attentionalcondition. In addition, support vector machine using cross-correlation function as features could classify the attentionaldirection, and three out of 15 participants achieved an accuracy of 90% or higher where music is presented by loudspeaker. Therefore, it was found that selective attention affects entrainment under the presentation of multiple music, and the attentionaldirection can be estimated from the difference in entrainment.
