Compensation for axis misalignment of UCA with OAM beam control

Abstract(in English) In recent years, mobile data traffic has increased explosively due to increasing wireless devices. Capacity enhancement is required for fronthaul and backhaul accordingly. Spatial multiplex transmission using orbital angular momentum (OAM) has been attracting attention as a solution. One of the OAM multiplexing methods is the use of uniform circular array (UCA). It is known that the performance deteriorates seriously if there are misalignments of the UCA at transmitter and/or receiver. In this paper, we propose a method of compensation for the degradation with beam control and/or MMSE weights in the case that the UCA installation height is shifted on the transmitter or receiver and the UCA surface is slanted on the transmitter. Specifically, the received power is increased by adjusting the main beam toward the transmit UCA to compensate for the degradation. It is found that by using beam control, total throughput is improved compared to using only MMSE weights. By using the beam control method together, it was found that the method can be applied to a wide range of angles.
