Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical see-through HMDs (OST-HMDs) make it difficult to see the display depending on the external world. And research has been done on external shades that suppress light from the external world over the entire field of view, and display shades that make the display look opaque by partially suppressing light from the external world. However, no research has been done to combine them. In addition, it is difficult to implement an OST-HMD that has both an external shade and a display shade. Therefore, we designed and implemented a simulator to reproduce such an OST-HMD in a VR space. Then, we conducted a subject experiment in which the simulator was used to perform a task simulating a picking operation in a warehouse, and analyzed how the combination of the intensity of the external shade and the display shade affected the visibility. We prepared three types of simulator displays: AR display, non-AR display, and AR character display, and set four different shade intensities for the external shade and the display shade. The subject experiments revealed that the susceptibility to either the external shade or the display shade depended not on whether the AR or non-AR display was used, but on whether it was an outline display or a character display.
