An Examination of the Detection of Students' Classroom Behavior for Class Evaluation

Abstract(in English) Beginner teachers are low teaching ability than expert teachers because they are a few teaching experiences in practice. For instance, teachers in elementary school must lecture 25 units per week. To improve a beginner teacher's class quality, they experience the class in an actual scene and observe other teachers' classes. This study aims to detect students' state during a class for a reflection support system. In particular, this study takes video using a camera and extracts a person's regions with YOLO algorithm. Then, this system calculated a histogram of gradients features against extracted regions and classified eight students' states using a support vector machine. As a result, this study could detect eight students' states with an accuracy of 83.3 percent.
