Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since 2010, the scale and traffic of the Internet have been increasing due to the enhancement of content, higher quality networking, and the spread of cloud services. In addition, since the emergence of huge content holders (CHs) such as Google and Facebook, the network structure has changed from a connection structure centered on large ISPs to one that moves toward CHs. In other words, content distribution has greatly influenced the network structure. In addition to the traditional client-server (C/S) method of content distribution, P2P file-sharing applications such as BitTorrent are now widely used. P2P file-sharing applications are highly scalable, and since they communicate in the background, they generate a lot of traffic, which is said to place a heavy load on the Internet. However, as the network structure changes, the impact of P2P communication on IP traffic is not clear. In this study, we constructed a model network based on the Autonomous System (AS) topology and performed communication simulations using OMNeT++ in order to clarify the effects of P2P content distribution and network structural changes on IP traffic. As a result, we showed that P2P distribution increases the network load because the current network structure is changed in favor of C/S communication, but the traffic can be reduced by increasing the number of links between the same layers in the lower layers.
