Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A self-organizing map (SOM) is one of the AI techniques to visualize an applied multi-dimensional data set onto the two-dimensional plane as a feature map. Another technique to develop a simplified feature map without unnecessary items is proposed so far. These techniques remind us an idea that each area arranged on the feature map will change depending on importance of the withdrawn items. In the preceding study, its idea is applied to analyze a questionnaire survey, and its possibility is confirmed through some qualitative evaluation. As a next step, quantitative evaluation from the viewpoint of statistical indexes, i.e., average and standard deviation, of each item is carried out. Our preliminary assumption is that distribution of binary data(0/1) in the item is an essential factor to define the size of each area. As a result of some computer simulations, it is found that some essential items are estimated successfully in case of the above-mentioned questionnaire survey.
