A marking method for tungsten microelectrodes using bipolar current

Abstract(in English) In the electrophysiological experiments in vivo, it is necessary to specify the insertion position of the microelectrode, however existing methods have limitations in spatial resolution and tissue damage. Here we propose a novel marking method using tungsten oxide, which has a higher resolution and lower invasiveness than previous method. Tungsten electrodes were inserted into the mouse and macaque brain and then a marking point of about 50 μm could be observed by applying a biphasic pulse of 20-50 μA.
