A Delay Tolerant UAV Network using Message Ferries in Mountain Communications

Abstract(in English) When a hiker communicates with each other in a mountain, typically, cellular communication or direct communication between hikers is possible. However, mountains are poor communication environments, end-to-end communication is not guaranteed. In an environment like these, using a DTN (Delay-Tolerant-Networking) to have direct communication between hikers is a valid choice. A DTN made for hiker's communication has the problem that it depends on the number of hikers in the mountain, and its performance is susceptible to how often hikers meet each other in the mountain trail. To solve these DTN problems, we propose a combined Ferry-Initiated Message Ferrying and Node-Initiated Message Ferrying (N + F) system. To evaluate the performance of the proposed DTN system, we simulate a deployment scenario and measure the hiker's Message Delivery Rate.
