Abstract(in English) This paper, in order to improve the performance of roundabouts, proposes the multi-layer design of roundabouts, and compare the performance of the multi-layered roundabouts with the conventional roundabouts by microscopic simulations. A new area equality comparisons criterion is defined, performance comparisons between general signalized intersections and multi-layered roundabouts are carried out based on this new area equality comparisons criterion. The basic knowledge of multi-layered roundabouts is obtained.
