Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Network functions virtualization (NFV) can realize low-cost and flexible network services by decoupling network functions from dedicated hardware and executing them on generic hardware as virtual network functions (VNFs). In NFV networks, a network service can be realized as a sequence of VNFs called a service chain. Service chaining is a problem that aims to find a service path from an origin to a destination and allocate the physical resources (servers and communication links) appropriately to execute the VNFs at intermediate nodes in the requested order. There are many studies on the service chaining for different objectives. In this paper, we formulate the service chaining problem as an integer linear program (ILP) to achieve highly-available, energy-efficient, and reliable NFV networks. Through numerical results obtained by solving the ILP using the existing solver, we show that the weighting parameter of the objective function can control the tradeoff between the high availability and energy efficiency. As for the redundancy, we show that end-to-end protection of an entire service chain can realize fault tolerance against a single physical node/link failure at the expense of about twice cost of resource and energy consumption compared with the no-protection case.
