Methodology for App Relocation in Distributed Cloud Environments with Consideration of E2E Latency Fluctuation and Cost

Abstract(in English) Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) is expected to be a key technology for realizing the services expected in 5G. Due to the limited resources of MEC hosts, methods of optimal application (App) allocation for the Distributed Cloud Environment (DCE), which consists of the MEC hosts and the hosts located in Central Cloud, are actively studied. This paper proposes an App relocation method for the Integrated Services Management Platform, which manages wide variety of Apps across multiple service providers, to improve the efficiency of User Equipment accommodation of the DCE. The proposed method achieves a high success rate and efficient App relocation by selecting a combination of the relocated App and destination host while simultaneously considering the E2E delay variation of each App affected by App relocation and the cost associated with App relocation. Numerical simulations show that the proposed method reduces the number of initial App allocation failures by up to 73.6% compared to the existing method.
