A Transmission Overrun Method for IEEE 802.1Q-2018 Scheduled Traffic in Wireless Networks

Abstract(in English) The development of Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) by the IEEE 802.1 working group led to lower transmission latenciesand higher availability for standard Ethernet networks. In particular, the IEEE 802.1Q 2018 Scheduled Traffic extension for bridges andbridged networks provides a deterministic traffic scheduling method to separate time critical traffic from best effort level traffic. A majordisadvantage of this is that due to the jitter and latency in a network, frames may arrive later than originally scheduled in a node. If a framecannot finish being transmitted in the given timeslot, it must wait for the next available scheduled timeslot to be transmitted. We propose atransmission overrun method that allows a final frame to be transmitted regardless of the schedule and show in a 5G wireless network with amaximum of 1ms of jitter that we are able to increase the bandwidth efficiency by 181.1% under the same latency constraints
