Abstract(in English) | 5G (5th Generation Communication System) is foreseen to be a revolutionary solution for the factory automation system, and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) has been working on the standardization of integrating 5G with TSN (Time Sensitive Networking) in the factory automation field. Meanwhile, synchronous communications with stringent time accuracy of around microsecond order are a key requirement for industrial applications. In this paper, the IEEE 802.1AS time synchronization mechanism is evaluated using the 3GPP Release-15 5G system, Wifi6, and 4G (TD-LTE). We conclude that the 5G system shows the best time precision performance with a time difference of 10ms. Performance degradation is due to the asymmetry of wireless channels, as well as wireless signal fluctuation due to environmental changes. As a solution, the new entity TSN translator defined in 3GPP Release-16 is applied, and the time difference is estimated to reduce to around 1ms. |
