Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Researches on distributed vibration sensing (DVS) to closely visualize optical fiber cable states have been developed for various applications including traffic monitoring, structural health monitoring, detection of natural disasters such as earthquakes and gales. Among DVS techniques, Phase-OTDR can detect vibrations quantitatively and highly sensitively. Problems such as phase unwrapping failures and fading have been alleviated by some techniques. These include the frequency-division-multiplexing (FDM) technique developed by our group. Field trials outside laboratories have also been increased for practical uses. However, the number of trials using a communication optical fiber cable as a sensor to monitor communication facilities are still very small. This paper describes the recent progresses in FDM techniques first. Then, this paper shows the monitoring results of an aerially installed cable on telephone poles outside a building, which experienced natural winds.
