Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Dystrophinopathy is a progressive intractable disease that is caused by an abnormality in the gene for the causative protein dystrophin, leads to degeneration and necrosis of skeletal muscle, and is known to also occur in the retina and brain. However, no systematic method has been established to examine the progress and extent of the disease over time. Painful and invasive methods, such as skeletal muscle biopsy, are used to examine the status of the disease in individual cases and are particularly distressing for patients who develop the disease at an early age, such as 2 or 3 years old. In this study, we focused on the abnormalities of red?green color vision based on patients’ paintings in previous studies and developed a simple color vision test system that can be used in the supine and prone positions on a bed. The results showed an association between the dystrophin gene isoform mutations that trigger the disease and a decrease in sensitivity to both red and green based on a tendency toward visual sensitivity to both luminance and hue. This suggests the possibility of monitoring the progress of the disease using a simple, non-invasive color vision test. |
