Comparing Pixel Predictors with Different Coding Order for Lossless Image Coding

Abstract(in English) The efficiency of lossless image coding depends on the pixel predictors, with which unknown pixels are predicted from already-processed pixels. Conventionally, the pixels are processed in the Raster order starting from the top-left pixel. Therefore, when predicting a specific pixel, the predictor can refer only to the upper side of the target pixel. We proposed a pixel predictor that can use the lower half of the target pixels to predict the target pixels. The experimental results showed that the proposed method achieved comparable coding efficiency to the conventional CNN-based pixel predictor. In addition, the proposed method is able to process multiple pixels at the same time. Therefore, the proposed method achieved much faster decoding than the conventional CNN-based pixel predictor. In this paper, we present detailed evaluations on our method to reveal the trade-off between the coding efficiency and computational cost.
