Abstract(in English) | A TM-pass terahertz waveguide polarizer is efficiently analyzed using implicit and semi-implicit finite- difference time-domain (FDTD) methods. First, we analyze the waveguide polarizer using the FDTD method based on the implicit locally one-dimensional (LOD) scheme. We compare the computation time and accuracy with those of the explicit FDTD method. It is found that the computation time is reduced to $simeq$10% of the explicit FDTD method with a maximum error of 10% for the guided-mode power, when the time step size is chosen to be 55 times as large as the explicit counterpart. Furthermore, the waveguide polarizer is analyzed using the semi-implicit FDTD method. In this study, we introduce the implicit scheme only to the discretization of the thickness direction of the polarizer, which requires a small spatial mesh. It is shown that using a spatial mesh size with an aspect ratio of 1:16, the calculation time is reduced to 36% of the explicit FDTD method with a maximum error of 0.81%. |
