Abstract(in English) | Controller area network (CAN) is widely used for in-vehicle networks. In recent years, much more reducing for CAN wiring has been required as upgrading higher-performance CAN networks. However, the number of nodes is very limited for higher-rate CAN because the upper limit is defined as two nodes with 5 Mbps in SAE J2284 standards. In this manuscript, we verify the feasibility of power wiring reducing for high-rate, high-multiplexing CAN by exploiting power over CAN (PoCAN) in which the DC power is superposed to CAN twisted-pair cables. CAN signals are not suitable for DC power superposition because the signals are defined as unipolar non-return-to-zero (NRZ) line codes including DC component. Bipolar alternate-mark-inversion and NRZ (AMI-NRZ) line codes are generated by using two CAN transceivers in the PoCAN node architecture and the line codes do not include DC component in the signals. By using the VHDL-AMS simulator SaberRD, we emulate the PoCAN signaling generated from the PoCAN node architecture over a passive star CAN network. We measure the CAN bus signals in front of the PoCAN nodes and the received signals through 1-bit hysteresis comparators. The simulation results reveal the effects of the 1-bit hysteresis comparators for bit detection by comparing the bus signals with the received signals. |
