Filter characteristics in 3D plasmonic waveguide by using optimization method

Abstract(in English) Recently, plasmonic waveguides are expected for compactness of optical integrated circuits in optical communication. We describe the design method of a long-wavelength-pass filter in a plasmonic waveguide with Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) structure, and show the improvement of filter characteristics using the steepest descent method. Next, we show the difference of an effective index in two- and three-dimensional analyses, and confirm that the three-dimensional analysis is needed. Finally, we compare filter characteristics in transmission-line, two- and three-dimensional analyses. We demonstrate that, in the three-dimensional analysis, the numerical results are different from those of the two-dimensional analysis in a specified thickness of the MIM structure, and desired wavelength characteristics are obtained.
