Study on chromatic dispersion dependence of GAWBS noise

Abstract(in English) We have proposed the guided acoustic-wave Brillouin scattering (GAWBS) phase noise compensation method with a pilot tone (PT). Here, we describe experimental and numerical results on the influence of chromatic dispersion in the optical fibers on this compensation method. We compared the compensation performance of GAWBS phase noise generated in an ultra-large-area fiber (ULAF) with DULAF = 21 ps/nm/km and a dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) with DDSF = -1.3 ps/nm/km, and found that the compensation performance strongly depends on the quantity of the chromatic dispersion. The numerical analysis shows that the group delay between the signal and PT due to chromatic dispersion decreases the GAWBS noise correlation between them, which degrades the compensation performance for GAWBS phase noise. It is clarified that, as a condition of effective GAWBS compensation, the group delay between the signal and PT should be less than a half of the period of the GAWBS phase noise component.
