Fabrication and Measurement of Optical Multi-mode Interference Devices Using Ti-diffused LiNbO3 Waveguides and Consideration on Voltage Control of Device Properties

Abstract(in English) Optical couplers based on Multi-mode interference (MMI) of Ti-diffused LiNbO3 (Ti:LN) waveguides were analyzed by the beam propagation method. Optical couplers operating as an optical 90-degree hybrid were designed by using MMI waveguides and were fabricated. Their properties were experimentally evaluated. From the experimental results, it was confirmed that the optical coupler consists of the MMI waveguide of 50μm width and 2.2mm length operated as an optical 90-degree hybrid. We also confirmed that properties on the optical power split could be controlled by arranging the electrodes on the MMI waveguide part.
