Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We studied suppression characteristics of fiber fuse initiation by amplitude modulation (AM) of the input light in SMF at a wavelength of 1.55 ?m. First, we examined the input power dependence of the fiber fuse initiation suppression by AM with a modulation frequency of 100 kHz. We found that when the average input power increased from 4 W to 5 and 6 W, the extinction ratio of the AM light to suppress fiber fuse initiation increased. Second, when the AM frequency was 50 kHz, we obtained almost the same suppression characteristics as those by the AM with a frequency of 100 kHz.
