Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This presentation discusses initial findings on the comprehension of the scope ambiguity involving negation and no-youni adverbial phrase in Japanese. Research on the similar scope ambiguity in English found an important contribution of non-structural factors such as prosody and discourse properties and the present research seeks more cross-linguistic insights from Japanese, a head-final language. The preliminary findings from the two studies, offline judgment and elicited production tasks, aimed to first investigate the baseline preferences on the processing of this complex ambiguity.
