A study on chewing evaluation using surface electromyogram

Abstract(in English) Japan is facing an aging society, and the proportion of elderly people suffering from dementia is increasing. Asdementia progresses, masticatory ability decreases, increasing the risk of aspiration and increasing the risk of aspiration pneumonia. In order to prevent aspiration, it is important to eat according to the masticatory ability, and a method for determining the masticatory ability for patients with dementia is required. In this paper, we verify whether it is possible to identify the presence or absence of masticatory disorders using the biological signal measuring device FARG for elderly patients. We also systematized the proposed algorithm and developed software that automatically analyzes by reading the measurement data of the surface myoelectric potential. In this paper, we compare the results of the developed software with the results of manual analysis and evaluate their usefulness.
