Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Myopia is the most common disorder in human eyes. Previous studies have reported that decrease in outdoor activity time was one of the factors of myopia. We performed a questionnaire survey on reduction in visual acuity of Japanese undergraduate students under remote learning due to the spread of COVID-19. Fifty percent of 112 undergraduate students reported feeling or having the test results of reduced visual acuity. A multi-regression analysis showed a significant tendency of feeling or having the test results of reduced visual acuity due to increased smartphone screen-viewing time. χ2 tests showed that more than three hours of smartphone screen-viewing time led to the feeling of reduced visual acuity. These results suggest that feeling of reduced visual acuity might be attributed to the extended smartphone screen-viewing time, not to the reduced outdoor time. |
