Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To investigate the effect of the tactile map area on the tactile symbol search time, an experiment had been conducted by using tactile maps of five different sizes as the stimuli. The result showed that the search time increases as the area of tactile maps increases. In order to analyze the cause of it, we investigated the finger movements recorded by a motion capture system. Random finger movements were seen in many trials using small size tactile maps, but as the tactile map area increased, random finger movements decreased and, instead, the parallel sweep strategy was seen in many trials. The finger movement speed increased as the tactile map area increased. The increase in search time despite the increase in search speed suggests that an increase in search distance due to the increase in size has a greater effect on search time than the increase in search speed.
