Abstract(in English) | For improving the reliability of optical wireless communications, the implementations of error correcting codes are investigated. As the typical modulation schemes used in optical wireless system using turbo code, which is one of the error correcting codes, pulse position modulation (PPM) and on-off keying (OOK) are well known. Although the transmission efficiency of OOK system is excellent, this system has an optimum decision level adjustment problem and a bit-slip problem. The PPM system does not have those problems, but the transmission efficiency becomes half of that of the OOK system. For solving the respective issues of OOK and PPM, Hybrid PPM-OOK, which transmits signal using PPM and OOK simultaneously, have been proposed. In this paper, the turbo code system with hybrid PPM-OOK signaling (HPOS) has been advanced by adding a new signal converter to improve the performance in the free space optical (FSO) strong turbulence channel. As a result, the new signal converter is effective. The BER performance of the proposed HPOS system is almost the same as that of the binary PPM punctured turbo code system, but its transmission efficiency of the proposed HPOS system is about 1.3 times higher. |
