The relationship between group index and group delay spread in coupled multicore fibers under macrobending condition

Abstract(in English) We reveal the relationship between group index and group delay spread (GDS) in coupled multicore fibers for space division multiplexing (SDM) transmission under macrobending condition, and propose a structure reducing GDS further. First, we explain GDS analysis method under macrobending condition. Next, we discuss the physical reason of discontinuous behavior of GDS in terms of core-to-core distance and demonstrate that it can be explained from the relationship between group index and GDS. Finally, a novel fiber structure with small GDS and high core density is proposed to reduce GDS at the discontinuous point.
