Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A polarization rotator (PR) consisting of stacked half-wave plates with dielectric layers is developed to obtain the wideband characteristics regardless of an incidence plane of polarization. The behavior of the stacked PR is explained with the help of the Jones matrix. The parametric study regarding the periodic length and thickness reveals that the phase difference exhibits an extreme value when the wavelength is changed. This serves to keep the phase difference close to $pi$ in a wide wavelength range. Further calculation based on the FDTD method shows that the stacked PR achieves almost 90$^circ$ rotation over a wavelength from 1.13 to 1.80 $mu$m, while maintaining linear polarization.
