Spectral linewidth reduction of hybrid tunable laser by loading optical negative feedback circuit

Abstract(in English) Spectral linewidth of a hybrid tunable laser consisted from SOA and Si optical circuits is reduced by loading an optical negative feedback circuit. In this study, Si optical ring filter is used as a frequency discriminator for the optical negative feedback circuit. In order to minimize the spectral linewidth of the laser source, coupling efficiency between the laser cavity and the optical negative feedback circuit is optimized through calculation of power spectral density of FM noise. It is confirmed that the narrow spectral linewidth of less than 10 kHz can be obtained by setting the coupling efficiency to optimized value.
