[Invited Lecture] Performance of Unlicensed Wireless Communication Systems under Multiple Periodic Burst Noise Environment

Abstract(in English) With the increase of the demands for next generation wireless communication service, an efficient use of unlicensed spectrum is one of the key challenges to enhance the available radio frequency resources. Several unlicensed spectrum are originally dedicated for ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) apparatus, and the periodic burst man-made noise degrades the performance of wireless communication systems operated in ISM-band. To fully exploit the radio resource in unlicensed spectrum, an evaluation of the periodic burst man-made noise emitted from ISM apparatus on the performance of the wireless communication systems and the countermeasures against the man-made noise are essential. In this paper, we focus on the man-made noise emitted from multiple microwave ovens and investigate the performance of wireless LAN (WLAN) operated in 2.4GHz unlicensed band under multiple periodic burst noise environment. In addition, as a countermeasure against multiple periodic burst noise, we propose a dynamically control of the time difference (offset time) of the periodic burst noise. Numerical results show that the performance of WLAN depends on the offset time of periodic man-made noise and it will be improved by the proposed technique.
