[Invited Talk] Optical switch for Multi-core fibers

Abstract(in English) A multi-core fiber (MCF) that has plurality of cores in one fiber is one of the promising candidates to cope with the exponentially increasing transmission capacity. Devices around MCFs are also necessary to realize MCF network. As an example of space division multiplexing (SDM) devices, we introduce an 1×4 optical switch for coupled 4-core MCFs. The feature of the switch is low insertion loss because it works without using fan-in/fan-out (FIFO). This was achieved by precisely rotational alignment of MCFs.
