Phase Noise Compensation Using LMS Algorithm and PLL for FDE in SISO Channels

Abstract(in English) This paper presents the bit error rate (BER) performance of phase noise compensation (PNC) with least mean square (LMS) algorithm and phase locked loop (PLL) for frequency domain equalizer (FDE) in frequency-selective fading channel. In this paper, we assume common pilot signal structure that is used as a reference signal for the LMS algorithm and the PLL. Computer simulation results show that by using the PNC based on LMS algorithm and PLL for FDE, the BER of $10^{−6}$ or lower is achieved in an additive white Gaussian channel with time-varying phase noise. We also show that the error floor around $10^{−5}$ is observed due to the residual phase noise and the signal distortion in the Rummler fading channel with a deep notch that is a typical channel model of microwave radio backhaul. We conclude that the more powerful PNC method is necessary to achieve the BER of less than $10^{−6}$ with small pilot signal overhead.
