Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Recently, it has been found that the vertebrate brain has a unique waste clearance pathway called the glymphatic system. One of the unsolved problems of the system is whether the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flows in a constant direction or not in the brain parenchyma. To address this issue, we analyzed the diffusion property of the brain by the functional integrative optical imaging (fIOI) method. We measured the diffusion of fluorescent molecules injected in the brain parenchyma and analyzed time-lapse images of the fluoresce. It was found that the diffusion drifted toward a constant direction. The result supports the existence of the constant flow of the CSF in the brain parenchyma. |
