Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The previous haptic search experiments using stimuli with different textures have shown that search asymmetry occurs depending on the difference in textures. However, it is not clear whether the difference in tactile shapes produces search asymmetry. Thus, in this study, we conducted a haptic search experiment in which we replaced the roles of target and disturbance stimuli of circlular tactile symbols with or without a dot at its center, which are often used as tactile symbols for the blind people, to verify whether the search asymmetry occurs due to differences in tactile symbols. As a result, it was found that the search time for tactile symbols with more features (symbols with a dot) tends to be shortened. However, there was no statistically significant difference. When the search speeds were compared, the finger movement speed was faster when searching for the target with more features than for the target with less features. Moreover, it was found that the number of detection errors differed depending on the shape of the tactile symbols, which may have affected the search time.
