Abstract(in English) | Many VR (Virtual Reality) systems that present a sense of flight have been proposed so far. In this study, we proposed a system that presents the flight sensation to the experiencer using a running water pool and an underwater HMD (Head Mounted Display), and examined the usefulness of the underwater environment in presenting the flight sensation. We conducted an observation experiment to confirm the relationship between the velocity of the image presented by the underwater HMD and the flow velocity of the running water pool, and four conditions with and without running water in the underwater experience and with and without wind in the land experience. We conducted an experiment to compare the flight sensation. The elements that make up the flight sensation are considered to be floating, speed, and freedom, and as a result of evaluating the subject’s experience from these perspectives, it was found that the proposed system can present a high flight sensation to the subject. On the other hand, it was found that the proposal system imposes a lot of physical burden on the experiencer. Based on these, we discuss the advantages and challenges of presenting a sense of flight underwater. |
