Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The Vestibulo-Oculsr reflex (VOR) is a reflex eye movement that stabilizes our vision by counter-rotating the eyes at the same speed during head movements. Previous studies have shown that the VOR is a useful indicator for preventing driver’s sleepiness. However, it is considered that the VOR can not be used in stationary environments that would not cause exogenous head motion, such as offices and classrooms. On the other hand, it has been known for a long time that heartbeats cause head motion, and it has also been reported that vestibular disorders cause blurred vision after each heartbeat. In this study, we measured Electrocardiogram and head and eye movements at the same time, and demonstrate that the VOR is induced by heartbeats. In addition, we confirm that the VOR caused by heartbeats can be an indicator of reduced arousal level.
