A Proposal for the Learning Environment to Evaluate a Computational Thinking for Elementary School in Japan from Operation Point of View

Abstract(in English) This research aims to propose a learning environment to assess the "computational thinking" of elementary school students from their operations during exercises. Programming learning in the Japanese elementary school introduced in 2020 has promoted the development of computational thinking acquired during the learning process. However, at the current stage, there is no precise quantitative evaluation method to grasp their computational thinking ability and no productive learning environment to develop the children appropriately. To realize the situation, we have designed exercises based on the educational goals for computational thinking presented in some previous studies, and we are developing a web application that quantifies children's operations during the exercises and connects them to assess their computational thinking abilities.
