Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) While the spread of social media increases the convenience of users' information-gathering activities, it also creates a bias in the information distribution by its nature of easily connecting users with similar ideas. In such an information distribution environment, only users who are close to each other are exchanging their opinions, and they lose the opportunity to know the opinions of users with different positions, which leads to conflicts between users who have different opinions. In this paper, we propose a model of opinion formation in which the interaction of empathy and repulsion works among social media users to elucidate the mechanism of the occurrence of such polarization.Related work is based on an unnatural assumption that neutrality of opinions can be determined in advance. Our proposed model introduces the idea that relative differences of opinion determine the neutrality of opinion as a result.
