Abstract(in English) | Previously, we have presented a 256 × 256 large-scale MIMO antenna that achieves an over-100 Gbps channel capacity over the full-azimuth coverage. This antenna comprises four sets of 64 × 64 MIMO antennas squarely arranging in a two-dimensional manner, resulting in some drawbacks from the viewpoint of practical applications due to a large occupied space. In another R&D activity, on the other hand, the authors have examined a method of achieving a small-sized 128×128 MIMO array by means of the double-ring structure of 64 × 64 MIMO arrays, successfully attaining a 85 %-channel capacity of a non-miniaturized 128×128 MIMO array. By utilizing all of the R&D resources that the authors have accumulated so far, the prime objective of this paper is to achieve a considerable reduction in the occupied space when a 256 × 256 large-scale MIMO antenna is used in a realistic use scenario, for instance, when it is mounted on a roof of a car. A particular emphasis is placed on gaining a good knowledge about the design method of a large-scale MIMO antenna by comparing its performance in two and three-dimensional configurations. Further, a novel approach that can provide a low correlation between subchannels is presented, from which we discuss the procedure for carrying out the miniaturization of large-scale MIMO arrays, aiming at accomplishing several hundreds of gigabits capacity in any direction in azimuth for the forthcoming 6G mobile communications. |
