Abstract(in English) | The author previously proposed a novel jig structure suitable for S11 calibration using SOM (short, open and reference material) termination was proposed as a preliminary step for dielectric measurement in liquids via the cut-off circular waveguide reflection method. Specifically, for realization of S1 calibration with reliable short termination, the inner diameter of the waveguide of the jig was set to be slightly larger than the inner diameter of the outer conductor of the coaxial line in order to ensure that the short element remains in contact with the outer conductor (ground plane) of the coaxial line due to its placement in the waveguide. However, the error in the measured S11 value and the estimated value of the complex permittivity due to the difference in theinner diameter of the sample insertion part should be quantitatively evaluated for application of this structure to the dilectric measurement of liquids. For this purpose, the exact S11 value of the analytical structure with various liquid sample inserted into the jig needs to be calculated. In this study, the formula for calculating S11 of stepped circular waveguide with coaxial feed was formulated by the method of moments (MoM). Next, the formulated analytical model wasassumed to be following two conditions; 1. no sample is inserted (open condition) and 2. pure water is inserted. S11 for the analytical model was calculated at frequencies of 0.50, 1.5 and 3.0 GHz. The calculated values of S11 by the MoM above were compared with those by the mode-matching technique (MMT) andthe finite element method (FEM). As a result, the calculated value of S11 by the MoM was in good agreement with the calculated value by the MMT. Moreover, the same tendency was confirmed in the calculated value of S11 by the MoM and the calculated value by the FEM, even if the inner diameter of the cylindrical cavity is slightly larger than the inner diameter of the outer conductor of the coaxial line. The validity of the formulation of the equation for the analytical model was thus confirmed. |
