Performance Evaluation of True Random Number Generator Using Latches

Abstract(in English) The use of a physical random number generator (TRNG) is suitable for secure key generation of IoT devices and secure nonce generation. This is because the random numbers generated by TRNG satisfy the unpredictability that is a requirement for secure random numbers. In addition, the random number sequence generated by TRNG must have high entropy. Various TRNG construction methods have been proposed to realize these. These random numbers are generally evaluated after TRNG becomes stable. In addition, for IoT devices, TRNG is required to have high entropy immediately after startup. In this paper, we implemented a TRNG using latches (L-TRNG) known as TRNG with high entropy on Zynq-7010 as an example of TRNG, and evaluated entropy by SP800-90B and AIS20/30 at a stable state. Furthermore, statistical evaluation was performed immediately after startup, and it was shown that L-TRNG can generate good random numbers from startup.
