Abstract(in English) | This high-speed mechanical switch consists of two sets of small Al contact sheets (2 pieces). The withstand voltage of the switch is about 6kV, and the operation time is about 8μs. The two sets of contact sheets are fixed side by side on an insulated 4-turn flat coil. The two sets are connected in series, and both ends are connected to both ends of the coil. The contact between the sheets is performed by rapidly applying a damped oscillating discharge current from a capacitor bank to the coil, and applying a high-density magnetic flux to the lower sheets of each set that is electromagnetically coupled to the coil. Electromagnetic forces act on the lower sheets, and these sheets collide with the upper sheets at high speed, closing the switch. The two sets of sheets are electromagnetically welded. When the discharge current reaches the maximum (about 27kA) and the switch is closed, the discharge current flowing through the coil commutates to the short circuit including the switch. The current flowing to the coil stops oscillating. We report the experimental results of such a high-speed mechanical switch. |
