Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a distributed intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) based on direction information instead of channel state information (CSI) for realizing a practical artificial channel control scheme for millimeter-wave communications. The proposed scheme employs IRSs that comprise a massive number of antenna elements and the reflection characteristic can be adjusted dynamically by individually controlling the phase of each IRS element. The distributed IRSs can compensate coverage and blockage in millimeter-wave communications. However, since the distributed IRSs is composed of multiple IRSs consist of massive elements, it suffers from overhead to collect CSI for controlling phase weight on each IRS element. Thus, we introduce beamforming weighting method based on direction information from IRS to transmitter and receiver points. Since this method is not necessary to collect detailed CSI, the overhead can be reduced. Simulation result shows the distributed IRSs can avoid blockage and achieve approximately 3.5 dB than the single larger IRS.
