Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The spectrum sharing scheme has been proposed to combat the frequency spectrum scarcity issues. Furthermore, as the amount of data-hungry applications keeps increasing, this scheme may be utilized in the millimeter-wave bands which have been allocated for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT). Thus, this paper presents the preliminary investigation of the energy detector in an outdoor environment at 25.19 GHz band. For the developed portable receiver (Rx) system, the 10 dBi or 20 dBi horn antenna was mounted on the stepper motor, which rotates in the horizontal direction and was controlled by the Arduino and motor driver via the PC. The antenna was connected to the handy spectrum analyzer (SA) to measure the power spectrum. The SA was also attached to the GPS module to obtain the spatial position. In the measurement, the transmitter (Tx) was the commercial low power data communication system located on the rooftop of a 14 m height building. It has the gain and half power beamwidth of 31.5 dBi and 4 degrees, respectively. The aperture of the Tx was directed horizontally and parallel to the street in front of the building. The Rx was put on a cart and positioned along the same street. Thus, it was within the line-of-sight (LOS) of the Tx. At each position, the GPS coordinates and power spectra at different azimuth angles were recorded. The test statistics of each angle were then computed from the maximum value of the spectrum over the frequency span. The results showed that almost only the LOS signal could be observed for the 10 dBi antenna. On the contrary, both LOS and backscattering components from the building opposite of the Tx were detected for the 20 dBi antenna. The LOS was the dominant mechanism when the Rx was located more than roughly 70 m from the Tx. In other positions, the backscattering paths were the major mechanism. However, in these positions, the LOS signal could be detected slightly easier in the case of the 10 dBi antenna due to the wider antenna beamwidth. This implied that if the backscattering signals were not present, the antenna with narrower beamwidth should be suitable for detection when the sensor is sufficiently far from the Tx. In other cases, the wider beamwidth antenna should be a better choice.
